The Teaching and Learning Centre wishes to advise the campus community that licenses for Yuja and Collaborate will not be renewed. Beginning this fall, Microsoft Teams will be the institution鈥檚 supported platform for video conferencing, recording, and related instructional activities. Existing webcams in classrooms are universal and will work with Teams.

The Research Travel Funding Program for students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members has observed steadily increasing application numbers over the past several years. To help manage application pressure and assist with budget forecasting, the following changes will be implemented now:
1) Faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students will be limited to receiving funding once every two calendar years. For example, if an applicant receives funding for travel to a conference in 2026, they will not be eligible to receive funding again until 2028. Note that this limit will apply retroactively to January 1, 2026--i.e., applicants who received funding in 2025 will remain eligible to receive funding in 2026.
2) Undergraduate students will be limited to receiving funding once during their undergraduate degree.
3) Retroactive application requests will no longer be accepted. Applicants must submit their travel funding request form in advance of their travel dates. Travel claims must be submitted within 30 days of returning from travel.
A few reminders: the travel grant is for researchers presenting their scholarly work; funding is not guaranteed, and applications will be declined if funds are exhausted for a particular fiscal year. A notice will be sent to the campus community if funds have been exhausted. Other sources of funding can be utilized to help offset the costs of travel for dissemination purposes. For example, for faculty members, this may include your PDTR fund and external grant applications. For students, this may include the 糖心原创 Student Union鈥檚 Academic Enrichment Funding program and support available through your department or graduate program.

The Department of Physics is once again hosting public viewings of the sun using our solar telescopes this summer. We invite you to join us on Friday, July 17, from 12:30-2:00 pm on the grassy area between Memorial Hall and Robertson Library. There you can view one layer of the sun's atmosphere (the chromosphere) through our ground-based telescope before climbing to the observatory and viewing another layer (the photosphere) through a different telescope. You'll get to see sunspots and prominences and learn about our nearest star.
If the weather is too cloudy on Friday, we will have to cancel this event, but we will be holding additional events later in the summer.

Title: When are Graph Polynomials Unimodal?
Abstract: A graph polynomial is commonly a generating function which enumerates the number of subsets with a given property. Many of these properties are closed upwards, that is, any subset which contains a subset with that property also has that property. Some examples are the domination polynomial, zero-forcing polynomial, and dependent set polynomial. The coefficients of these polynomials can completely be determined by their respective minimal subsets, which form a clutter (or Sperner family). In this talk we focus on when a given polynomial, generated from a clutter, is unimodal. That is, the coefficients are non-decreasing and then non-increasing. This generalizes some known results and ties a common thread between each of these graph polynomials. We will also discuss how these results have made progress on the unimodality conjecture for the independence polynomial of trees.
