In celebration of Indigenous History Month, the Teaching and Learning Centre has compiled a collection of learning resources to support meaningful engagement with Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary realities. The collection spans four categories:
Indigenous Films: including award-winning features like Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner, Beans, and the documentary Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance
Digital Archives and Virtual Exhibits: such as the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada, Native Land Digital, and the Apani Blackfoot Digital Library
Educational Resources: including the free online courses Four Seasons of Reconciliation and the University of Alberta's Indigenous Canada MOOC, and
Indigenous Literature and Storytelling: platforms like CBC's Unreserved, GoodMinds, and First Nations Pedagogy Online.
Together, these resources are designed to move beyond a glancing awareness and foster genuine understanding of land rights, sovereignty, reconciliation, and the ongoing impacts of colonization. We invite the entire 糖心原创 community to explore these materials and reflect on our collective responsibilities as learners and educators. .

The Health, Safety, and Environment Department (HSE) is offering Basic (previously called Emergency) First Aid/CPR training sessions on the following dates:

Intermediate (Previously called Standard) First Aid/CPR training is a comprehensive two-day course that offers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need enhanced training as a work requirement. Soup by numbers ...14 events, hosted by 5 faculties and 9 other campus departments/groups, with teams of approximately 8 per event, that is 112 people as hosts. Then, add in the 15 student volunteers who help set up. 127 people serving soup to (drum roll, please) ... 4161 students last year!
When I also consider the 2 exam chili/daal events, we can add 554 students served good food in a friendly environment at no cost to them.
That's a lot of food building a lot of community spirit!
So it is time to say "Thank you!". These events would not happen without the support of staff and faculty and the attendance of students - that's all of us, doing our part to foster the environment that is safe, inclusive and trusted.
I cannot look back without also looking ahead. As I build the calendar for 2026-2027, please reach out to book your date. A few groups have already asked so if you have date in mind, don't hesitate.

This three half-day workshop presented by the Teaching and Learning Centre will enable instructors to redesign an assessment so that it is aligned, authentic, inclusive, AI鈥慳ware, and sustainable. We will pay particular attention to the ways assessment design constraints and choices, such as format, instructions, grading processes/criteria, may affect students and instructors. We will also focus on managing workload (of students, instructors, TAs), consistency, and transparency during the workshop.
For colleagues with larger classes, we鈥檒l have a side session to discuss aspects of sustainability, scalability, and student engagement at scale.
Each participant will leave with:
- A student鈥慺riendly explanation of their assessment
- A scalable assessment design
- A clear AI鈥憉se statement
- A rubric/marking guide that is aligned with objectives and learning activities that is suitable for TA use
- A feedback strategy that works at scale
- A practical implementation plan
The workshop begins Tuesday, June 23, in the Teaching and Learning Centre (Robertson Library Annex, Room 230), with sessions running from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please RSVP by June 22, 2026 for in-person attendance.
